MOBILE FOUNDRY WORKSHOP
This was a one day casting workshop, for 12 artists casting pewter and bronze,
using cuttlefish moulds and 1 part open sandmoulds, running 2 furnaces . Starting
off with a bellow furnace for pewter then switching to air blowers for the bronze.
The workshop was very much hands-on, and artists obtained a good insight into the
process, how the furnaces work and mouldmaking . The artists were very imaginative
and finished the day with a wide variety of small completed work. Most participants
were either new to casting or had very limited previous experience but left with a
good working knowledge of the process and a lot of enthusiasm for continuing with
the use of casting in their practice.
The workshop was run by Roddy Mathieson of 'Alchemy' www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCfh3-WmSWg
assisted by Kevin Blackwell. It was held at Newmiln Farm tractor shed by kind permission of
