Artist portfolio - Kay Hood
My practice is inspired by white sheets blowing on a washing line. I enjoy the effect of light and shadow due to time of day and changing weather conditions - wind, sunlight, frost. My paintings reflect this. I paint in oils incorporating the actual background canvas into the work along with thinned down paint and delicate graphite drawing to give the illusion of light floating fabric. I use thicker paint in dark tones to convey shadows. Although ambiguous my work remains firmly rooted in reality. I also produce smaller pieces in watercolour.
After a trip to Venice last year I have began a new body of work which I will show along with older examples of my work at this year's Perthshire Open Studios.
